Dr. Kitti Subprasom explains the benefits of having vehicle-free drone imagery of the Rama 2 Highway during road construction to Channel 3 news.

GIC staff met with partners from Sensorsoft and Thailand’s Department of Highways at the DOH Samut Songkram office on April 4, 2019 to discuss their collaborative highway monitoring efforts with a Channel 3 news crew. Dr. Kitti Subprasom and Dr. Kasem Pinthong demonstrated two new mobile applications that the group recently launched; Rama 2 Road User helps motorists check traffic conditions along Rama 2 Highway, even allowing access to live video feed from CCTV cameras along the highway, while District Watch is a system for highway department officers to efficiently report and gather traffic accident data for future roadway improvements. GIC staff displayed results from a recent drone mission to map a 12km stretch of the Rama 2 Highway which is under construction. An in-house developed algorithm was applied to remove vehicles from the drone highway imagery, making it more convenient for DOH to monitor construction progress. The news segment is set to air on Thailand’s Channel 3 news program sometime before Songkran 2019. A link to the video will be added to this story as it is made available.
