The 24th Steering Committee Meeting of Sentinel Asia was held at the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), Sri Lanka, on December 12-13, 2024. This Steering Committee Meeting takes place annually and discusses the progress of its strategic plan and future directions.  As one of the Co-Chairs of the Steering Committee, Dr. Manzul Kumar Hazarika, Director of the Geoinformatics Center, gave opening remarks and highlighted the importance of Sentinel Asia in view of the increasing incidence of disasters in Asia. 2024 registered the highest number of activations in Sentinel Asia’s history. 

The Steering Committee reviewed (1) the status of the Strategic Plan and activities undertaken by the respective responsible agencies, (2) potential interventions to improve the overall Sentinel Asia operation, and (3) strengthen user interaction within the Sentinel Asia community. 

The Steering Committee welcomed the new Co-Chair, Dr Prakash Chauhan of ISRO, India and thanked the outgoing Co-Chair, Ms. Kandasri Limpakom of GISTDA, Thailand for her contributions to the Sentinel Asia.
