Cost Benefit Analysis of Drone Surveying


GIC staff member Sasanka Madawalagama has carried out a field survey in Colombo, Sri Lanka from 13-17 June 2016 to assess the cost benefit of using drones for surveying and mapping. The program was conducted in collaboration with Survey Department of Sri Lanka.

GIC is currently involved in low cost aerial mapping using consumer grade UAVs. The field work was done in selected areas of Colombo, Sri Lanka, using both survey grade and consumer grade UAV. The task was successfully completed with creating high resolution orthoimage and Digital Surface Model and validating its accuracy.
