Overview
The 9th Joint Project Team Meeting for Sentinel Asia (JPTM 2023) was held on 5 to 7 November 2024 in Quezon City, the Philippines. It was jointly organized by the Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), with the total of 135 participants from 40 member organizations attended the event. On Day 1, the session includes the presentations on the recent activities of Sentinel Asia, the introduction of new Sentinel Asia member organizations, and a special session on space DRM of panelists from the Philippines. Training workshops were conducted on the second and third day on several topics such as floods, forest fire, building damage assessment, etc. On the last day, the next JPTM 2025 was announced to be hosted in Thailand.
Mr Syams Nashrrullah, Research Specialist at GIC had attended the meeting and had conducted a training workshop on “Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) Data Analysis for Flood Detection and Mapping” on day 2. He also provided hands-on training to process the SAR data using free data and open-source software to the participants.
