The GIC team completed installation of two new AI-CCTV cameras in two locations along the Bang Bua canal in February 2025 as a part of the ongoing project- Plastic Flow Mekong Project. These cameras were installed along the same study locations as Environmental Research Institute Chulalongkorn University (ERIC), our partner in Thailand. Camera 1 has been placed at the canal bridge near the Chai Klong Bang Bua and Roi Krong communities, while Camera 2 is situated at the canal bridge in the Choomchon Roon Mai Pattana community. The selection of these locations was based on thorough site visits, considering factors such as optimal visibility, solar radiation exposure, bridge dimensions, and the positioning of the camera angle. The data collected by these cameras will serve as a baseline for the community survey conducted by the Chulalongkorn team.

Similarly, two new AI-CCTV cameras were installed successfully on the Rach Ngong Bridge in Can Tho, Vietnam with technical support from our local partners ClearRivers and Delta Fly team. The CCTV system will be used to monitor and track the movement of plastic waste flowing through the Rach Ngong Canal, helping to address environmental pollution in the region.

The CCTV can categorise five types of plastic waste- styrofoam, plastic bottles, plastic, trash bag and straw using computer vision, AI and geospatial technology. It can continuously monitor floating plastic waste in rivers and offers real-time prediction and data transmission.
