Optical and SAR Data Usage for Wetland Mapping

GIC organized a 5 days highly technical training program on “Optical and SAR data usage for wetland mapping” for Central Environmental Authority (CEA) and other stakeholders of Sri Lanka under the SAFE prototype project carried with Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA).

There were 12 participants from CEA, Survey Department, Coast Conservation Department, Irrigation Department, Forest Department and Department of Wildlife Conservation. The topics covered in the training are Optical Remote Sensing and Classification, Polarimetric SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar), Polarimetric Target response, Polarization signature, SAR decomposition, Speckle removal, Radiometric correction and ALOS/PALSAR full polarimetric classification using PolSARPro. The program was held from 14th to 18th May 2012.
