Overview
The Geoinformatics Center (GIC) team conducted a second round of surveys using Survey 123 mobile application around the project site- six communities along the Bang Bua canal, from 19 September 2025 to 26 September 2025. The six communities are Bang Bua Community, Run Mai Phattana Community, Roy Klong Community, Sapan Mai 1 and Sapan Mai 2 Communities, and Chai Klong Bang Bua Community. The objective of this survey was to identify plastic leakage hotspots, illegal dumping sites, littering spots, and artificial barriers near the river through a citizen science approach.
During the survey, a total area of 4.4 sq. km was covered. Potential plastic waste leakage areas were classified as either artificial barriers or littering spots, or uncontrolled dumpsites. This was achieved by recording key information such as surveyor data, date and time, type of data collection location, details of plastic waste, and photos of the survey locations. A total of 482 plastic waste hotspot points were identified across the study area, primarily consisting of littering spots and artificial barriers. The data collected from these surveys will support the identification of plastic hotspots within the study area and will be used to develop plastic leakage maps.
The first round of survey was completed previously in February 2025. It revealed that the Roy Khlong and Run Mai Phattana communities had the highest plastic leakage problem among the six communities, estimated at about 680 tons/year
