The Secretariat of UN-GGIM-AP, in collaboration with UNESCAP and UN-GGKIC, organized a workshop titled “Enhancing the Management of Geospatial Data Sharing for Disaster Risk Reduction and Sustainable Development” in Deqing, Zhejiang Province, China, from October 21-23, 2024. Dr. Manzul K. Hazarika, Director of GIC, and Mr. Syams Nashrrullah, Research Specialist, were invited to attend and share their expertise. On Day 2 of the workshop, Dr. Hazarika presented on the current major operations, activities, and challenges related to geospatial data collection and sharing platforms during Session 2.  

The workshop aimed to inform, engage, and consult geospatial experts from UN-GGIM-AP member countries on the concept of the Asia-Pacific regional geospatial data hub. The focus was on enhancing the management of geospatial data sharing to support disaster risk reduction and the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the Asia-Pacific region. Participants provided valuable feedback on the conceptualization of these data hubs and platforms, as well as addressing concerns regarding data governance, privacy, and security.
