The Forest Preservation Programme in Lao PDR – II


GIC in collaboration with Kokusai Kogyo Co.,Ltd organized consecutive second two weeks training program on “Standard GIS Training” for Forest Inventory and Planning Division (FIPD) in Lao PDR under Japan’s programme grant aid for environment and climate change – The Forest Preservation Programme in Lao PDR.

The training was conducted at Forest Resource Information Center, FIPD from 1st to 12th July 2013. Fifteen participants from Department of Forest Resource Management, Department of Agriculture Extension and Cooperatives, Department of Forestry Inspection, National Agriculture and Forestry Research Institute, and Department of Agriculture Land Management were participated.

Training program consists of lectures on REDD+, GIS applications in forest management, watershed management, soil erosion modelling, and very comprehensive hands-on training on Spatial Analyst and 3D Analyst modules in ESRI-ArcGIS software. During the training, RUSLE soil erosion model was implemented as a learning process of different GIS tools in ArcGIS. At the end, all the participants were work on their own to complete a case study in Lao PDR.
