Japanese government funded through Asian Development Bank (ADB) under Japan fund for Poverty Reduction (JFPR) to conduct the project entitled ‘Innovative Data Collection Methods for Agricultural & Rural Statistics’. Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) contributed as project technical advisor together with Remote Sensing Technology Center of Japan (RESTEC) and Geoinformatics Center (GIC) as international consultant team to strengthen capacity building to the implementing government agencies in four countries (Laos, Thailand, Philippines, and Vietnam).

      This project is to improve quality and timeliness of rice crop area and production estimation. Three major activities are implemented.

1) The development of customized software applications, International Asian Harvest Monitoring System for Rice (INAHOR), to estimate paddy of cultivation areas and productions based on satellite data at provincial level in four pilot countries

2) Training of counterpart staffs

3) On-line training program

This project was approved in May 2013 and will be completed in July 2016.
