The Geoinformatics Center has been responded to the flood emergency in several provinces in Vietnam due to the heavy rainfall in November 2023. The impacted area included in the region of Central Vietnam (Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue) during October to November 2023.

Complying the response of the emergency flood, Geoinformatics Center along with the Sentinel Asia representative visited Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) and the areas impacted to the Vietnam Flood. A comprehensive review meeting was concluded where focusing on the impactful activation of Sentinel Asia in Vietnam.

The meeting discussed about the various contributions of Sentinel Asia, exploration though the Sentinel Asi applications in emergency response, and potential preparedness along with the post-disaster reconstructions. MONRE was discussing about the disaster in Vietnamese context and shredded the emergency responses into the disaster evaluation in their areas.

The meeting also addressed the information needs from Sentinel Asia, evaluating whether the platform has successfully fulfilled the requirements for effective disaster management. Collaborative brainstorming sessions will be conducted to identify areas for improvement and innovation, fostering a dynamic exchange of ideas among participants.

Furthermore, the meeting will delve into the validation of map products, field survey plans, and the request for localized disaster information. This segment aims to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the information provided by Sentinel Asia, fostering trust and confidence in the platform’s outputs.

The site visit was elaborated with the meeting to the several impacted provinces, such as Hanoi, Ha Tinh, Aghe An and Quang Binh Province. The use of mobile application has been established in this survey, which is accessible and open for everyone.
